Pool Training this morning was, let’s just say, interesting. We had a couple of people to recertify and three to give full blown swim tests on. The recerts were quick and easy. No problems. But the swim tests, out of the three, one didn’t know how to swim. (OK easy, just practice what you have to do and get used to the water. Oh, and by the way, how can you not know how to swim at his age?) The second one did everything he had to do and listened to his rescue swimmer. (Lucky Biz.) And the last one has been doing this for years and should be able to pass, no problem, right? WRONG! If he fell into a bathtub, he would probably drown. He’s that bad. He gave up entirely too easily and kept going to the side of the pool. After telling him to get off the side of the pool and swim for the 10th time, (I know you would have done it sooner, Biz.) I told him, “Exit the pool. You fail.” And I was trying to do this guy a favor by giving him the test before he had to go back to TN. Oh, well, at least I don’t maintain his records here.
After the pool, we load up all of the gear. Well, someone else decided to help and load the gear for us. And head back to the office. I should have checked to make sure we had all of the gear before we left, because I forgot to get the training book. I spent most of my lunch driving back to the other post and getting it. Great fun that was. Korean lunch hour traffic is not fun to drive in. But on the way back there was a school van full of kids. When these kids saw me stopped next to them, I became a center of attention as they all tried to wave and say hi. It was kind of funny, and made my day. I like kids, for the most part. Especially other people’s kids, you can give them back.
Today we have to unload a few pallets of bottled water for the barracks. We have to get the water because you’re not supposed to drink the water that comes out of the taps here. The stuff is just bad. Every time I’ve been gone for a little while, I have to turn on all of the faucets in the room to let the water clear up. Sometimes it comes out almost black. For a while, they didn’t want to keep getting us the water because they said it was safe to drink. So, we had to show them what really comes out of the tap sometimes. Needless to say, they started getting the water again. But it is a pain to get it all unloaded.
Tomorrow’s Friday. I can’t wait to get out tomorrow night. I need to blow off some steam cause I’ve been running around here like a chicken with its head cut off. There has been so much to do before I go on vacation. (Sorry Biz, but you got to stay here. Actually, not sorry.) I have a feeling that this will turn out to be a GOOD weekend, for me at least. We shall see. But ya’ll may have to wait a little while for me to say whether, or not, it was a good weekend.
I’ll see ya’ll later.
