Exit the pool! You fail.

Pool Training this morning was, let’s just say, interesting.  We had a couple of people to recertify and three to give full blown swim tests on.  The recerts were quick and easy.  No problems.  But the swim tests, out of the three, one didn’t know how to swim.  (OK easy, just practice what you have to do and get used to the water.  Oh, and by the way, how can you not know how to swim at his age?)  The second one did everything he had to do and listened to his rescue swimmer.  (Lucky Biz.)  And the last one has been doing this for years and should be able to pass, no problem, right?  WRONG!  If he fell into a bathtub, he would probably drown.  He’s that bad.  He gave up entirely too easily and kept going to the side of the pool.  After telling him to get off the side of the pool and swim for the 10th time, (I know you would have done it sooner, Biz.) I told him, “Exit the pool.  You fail.”  And I was trying to do this guy a favor by giving him the test before he had to go back to TN.  Oh, well, at least I don’t maintain his records here.

After the pool, we load up all of the gear.  Well, someone else decided to help and load the gear for us.  And head back to the office.  I should have checked to make sure we had all of the gear before we left, because I forgot to get the training book.  I spent most of my lunch driving back to the other post and getting it.  Great fun that was.  Korean lunch hour traffic is not fun to drive in.  But on the way back there was a school van full of kids.  When these kids saw me stopped next to them, I became a center of attention as they all tried to wave and say hi.  It was kind of funny, and made my day.  I like kids, for the most part.  Especially other people’s kids, you can give them back.

Today we have to unload a few pallets of bottled water for the barracks.  We have to get the water because you’re not supposed to drink the water that comes out of the taps here.  The stuff is just bad.  Every time I’ve been gone for a little while, I have to turn on all of the faucets in the room to let the water clear up.  Sometimes it comes out almost black.  For a while, they didn’t want to keep getting us the water because they said it was safe to drink.  So, we had to show them what really comes out of the tap sometimes.  Needless to say, they started getting the water again.  But it is a pain to get it all unloaded.

Tomorrow’s Friday.  I can’t wait to get out tomorrow night.  I need to blow off some steam cause I’ve been running around here like a chicken with its head cut off.  There has been so much to do before I go on vacation.  (Sorry Biz, but you got to stay here.  Actually, not sorry.)  I have a feeling that this will turn out to be a GOOD weekend, for me at least.  We shall see.  But ya’ll may have to wait a little while for me to say whether, or not, it was a good weekend.

  I’ll see ya’ll later.

The Temple

PT this morning was't too bad. But, it wan't exacty fun either. We had a 2 kilometer hike up pretty steep rough stair/path. I had been up to the temple there before, but not by this route. The way I went was an easier hike, much easier. And yes, I did take a few pictures. This is the sign at the bottom showing the route from here.

This on the path up near the bottom. This is pretty much the only pic on the move, I was too winded to try more.

Here's a shot of a shrine about 1/3 to 1/2 the way up.

These two go together, as they are side by side. Above is a bell . And below is , well I don't kow what it is called that is just to the right of he bell pagoda.

The view from the top. The haze isn't smog, or fog, its dust blown down from the Gobi Dessert in China.

The sitting Budha statue at the top.

Another, closer, shot of Budha showing the offerings.

This is the group that madethe trek to the top, minus me, of course. It also gives you an idea just how big Budha is.

And this is just before we got back to the van to head home.

I didn't take a lot of pics, I was not really all that interested in taking them most of the time, too tired. The thing that got me though, was while we were on the way up, we would get passed by older people on their way up. And I mean old. I don't know how they do it. Oh well. That's it for today.

I'll see ya'll later.

Another Short One

Training at the pool went pretty good this morning. We only had two people to requalify, and one guy to completely train. That was the fun one. He’s not a real strong swimmer, but he passed the swim portion with little problem. Then we started training him on the use of the HEEDS stuff. And I was surprised at how well he did. He didn’t panic, or have any problems. He did better than guys that have been doing this for years. I was impressed.

Oh, I almost forgot about Biz’s lifeguard. I get there and, well, the lifeguard’s a dude. So, I was starting to wonder just how long Biz was under the water last time. But he saved himself by saying that was definitely not the lifeguard he was talking about. But anyway, I didn’t get to see her. Maybe next week.

The rest of today is kind of a blur. I was running around trying to finalize everything for the range. And then, Murphy decided to show up. Another unit wanted to piggyback with us on the range. When I was asked, I said no. Then they went around me to the CO and talked to him. He backed me up, but only after he found out how many people they were talking about. (It would have been ok with about 5 people, or so, but not the numbers they were talking about.) The end result? We are still going to run our range, just much, much earlier than originally planned. Oh well. I just want to get it over with finally. Its taken too much of my work time.

If you haven’t seen Biz’s entry from today, you need to head over there and check it out. He declared war because of my comment yesterday about his huge ass. Anyway, he posted this pic:

When I saw it, I just about fell out of my chair from laughing so hard. Yes, it’s a pic of me he got at work with out me knowing. And he played with the one on the left. What I think it is, is that he’s hoping to look as good as me when he gets to my age. But that’s ok. Age and treachery will win out over youth and enthusiasm every time. (But there is something to be said about enthusiasm.) Be on the lookout for an update.

I’ll see ya’ll later.

Another Day, Another $.50

Sorry about not posting yesterday, but I’ve been a little busy at work. And it doesn’t look like it’ll let up all that soon either. I can’t wait till I PCS back to the States and can take a little bit of leave. I really need a break from this for a little bit.

I’m beat. For some reason, I’m still dealing with the whole time change thing. It usually doesn’t take this long for me to reset. Normally, I just go out and get drunk, sleep it off, and I’m fine. I did go out and drink when I got back, but I didn’t get drunk and I was out all night. Maybe that’s why its taking so long. Hope I get back on track soon.

Tomorrow we have pool training. I’m actually looking forward to it. Its kind of relaxing. And its different from the normal schedule. I don’t know how many people are going to show (And its never everyone that needs to go.) but everything will go fine anyways. I also hope that this lifeguard that Biz keeps talking about is there, too. After all, the way he feels about Asian women, if one gets his attention, I need to see her. (Just to make sure he’s not going blind, of course.)

Then, in the afternoon, I have to give a weapons class for a range that I’ll be running. The class part should be pretty easy. I’ve been in A LOT of them over the years. The range on the other hand, I’m not too sure about, never actually run one before. I know basically what to do, just hope that I do it right. I’ve only gone to the range and paid attention to my little part of it, like Lane Safety, Gate Guard, Medic, stuff like that. Either way, it should turn out to be quite a learning experience.

Biz left his car lights on yesterday after lunch and had to get a push start. It was no problem for me. Since I’m one of the smallest guys in the unit, and the smallest one there at the time, I didn’t have to do the pushing thing. I got to pop the clutch. Only problem is that with Biz’s long ass legs, I almost couldn’t reach the pedals. I tried to move his seat up, but it only moved like an inch. Looks like his fat ass broke it. LOL.

This is going to be it from me today. Just don’t have anything even remotely as interesting as what I have already written (If that can even be called interesting.) left to write. So…

I’ll see ya’ll later.

And don't this just say it all.

Look Who's Back in Town

Yes, Mama Biz, I’m back. The “vacation” turned out to be about a week longer than I was originally expecting, but at least I get paid extra for it. It wasn’t a whole lot of fun and the weather sucked. It rained just about everyday, and was cold to boot, except for the last 3 days. One of them we had a dust storm all day and then just beautiful, warm (read 80 degrees or so) and sunny. Then we flew for 2 days. (Tell you what, I would much rather fly military for long flights, at least I can lie down and get comfy.) The last day was a 10 hour flight. I get back here and give Biz a call at around 8-8:30 PM and am at his place by 10.

We head down to the Crew and have a pretty good time. There were a lot of friends there I hadn’t seen in a while. Did a lot of catching up and answering questions about what I had been doing. Met a new person through Kiwi, she’s a Korean girl. Kiwi introduced her with an American name. (Sorry, but I don’t know what to call her yet.) And she is a pretty good looking girl. (Just ask Biz. And he doesn’t like Koreans.) But why would someone not use their given name? I don’t understand it, unless you’re trying to hide, or something. Anyway, I digress. Another friend, more of Biz’ than mine, showed up later. She’s my friend Aussie’s girl and we hadn’t really talked more than saying “Hi!” to each other. (I think that’s what I’ll call her, Aussie Girl, AG for short.) Anyway, me and AG get to talking. And she’s a pretty cool person. Anyway, while we’re talking, Biz and I are playing pool and fairly well too. There’s this guy that passed out around 3 AM over on one of the couches and the drunk Irish guy being carried down the stairs. Great night. Until we walk outside. The sun was up! I wasn’t ready for that. And Biz, it was 6:30, not 7:30, when we got home. And you were home a lot earlier than I was.

I get home and was going to get on the comp (Yep, its still working.) for a little bit to talk to the kids. But, I didn’t get much past the bed before it drew me back in. All of the jet lag hit me at once. (6 hour time change) And I crashed. Hard. I woke up around 2 PM and unpacked. (Did I mention that I didn’t do that before?) I did all of my normal Saturday things and around 5, or 6, PM I started to feel like crap. So, I called Biz and stayed in. I fell asleep at around 9 and didn’t wake up till 2 PM. I guess I was beat! And today, I’m just relaxing. See, I don’t have to work today, but Biz does. (Hope you read this today! Have fun.) But, its back to the grind tomorrow, oh well.

And, yes Biz, I did read your blog today. I have this to say. I AM NOT OLD! There, I feel better now. And I took your little quiz. Who’s old now!
